Dr Laura Anthony
East Midlands
Dr Laura Anthony is a specialty doctor in haematology at Northampton General Hospital, where she has worked in this specialty since 2015. She joined the SAS workforce in 2021 after making the decision to step away from specialty training to prioritise her wellbeing and achieve a better work-life balance. She has since found a rewarding and varied career that allows her to combine clinical practice with her interests in leadership, education and service development.
Laura is passionate about making positive changes for both patients and colleagues. She chairs her department’s shared decision making council, bringing staff together to identify problems, share ideas and make practical improvements to their working environment. She has led a number of departmental initiatives, including the Haem Hamper, a charity-funded project providing snacks and lunch items to patients attending the haematology day care unit. She particularly enjoys seeing how relatively simple ideas, developed collaboratively, can make a meaningful difference to people’s experiences of care.
Alongside her clinical work, Laura is an educational and clinical supervisor and enjoys supporting colleagues in their professional development.
Her own career journey has given her a strong appreciation of the different paths doctors can take and the importance of feeling supported in those choices. As an RCP SAS regional representative, she hopes to raise the profile of SAS doctors, ensure their voices are heard and help build a supportive regional network where colleagues can share experiences, ideas and opportunities.
Outside work, Laura enjoys spending time with her husband, two young daughters and their beagle, Gus. She enjoys running, going to the gym, being outdoors and getting stuck into creative projects.
“There isn’t just one route to a fulfilling medical career. I’m proud to be an SAS doctor and want to help others feel equally valued and confident in the paths they’ve chosen. I hope to bring people together, listen to what matters to them and make sure SAS doctors have a strong voice in shaping our future.”
