Imposter syndrome workshop

Examine imposter syndrome through an evidence-based lens; challenging the idea that it stems from individual deficit.

Registered delegates can sign up for a one-hour RCP education taster workshop between 8-9am on the day of the conference.

Places are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis. A link to register for this workshop will be sent in your joining email.

If you have registered for this workshop but can no longer attend, please email education.courses@rcp.ac.uk so your place can be offered to another delegate.

The session will highlight how systemic barriers and societal expectations may shape imposter feelings, particularly in medicine and leadership. Delegates will gain a clearer understanding of the research and practical ways to support themselves and others within these structures. The content is accredited for 1 CPD point.

Resident doctors - join our networking session

London representatives from the RCP’s Resident Doctor Committee will be hosting a special resident doctor networking session for registered attendees during the morning comfort break of this conference. Come along to this informal meeting to hear about the work of the committee and to share your thoughts about training, or any regional issues. 

There is no need to register for this in advance, simply book your place for this conference.

Dr Ameet Bakhai

Dr Ameet Bakhai is a consultant cardiologist and clinical R&D director in the NHS in North London, a Harvard scholar, and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
Ameet has enabled innovation of drugs, devices and diagnostics in multiple cardiac areas of heart failure, atrial fibrillation, acute coronary syndromes and risk factor reduction for cardiovascular events. 
He has over 150 publications and received a national award for a decade of work in clinical cardiovascular research from the Royal College of Physicians and is a recognised for clinical trials & research, technology innovation and medical education.

Dr Wisis Wedzicha

Wisia Wedzicha is professor of respiratory medicine, head of the respiratory division at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College,  clinical consul at Imperial College and honorary consultant at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. She qualified from Somerville College, Oxford University and St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College. She was elected as fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci) and is a fellow both of the American Thoracic Society (ATSF) and European Respiratory Society (FERS). She received the Helmholtz international fellow award in 2014.
Professor Wedzicha has a major interest in the causes, mechanisms, impact and prevention of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations; in the role of bacterial and viral infection in COPD exacerbations. She directs an active research group to study COPD exacerbations and has published extensively on these topic. She also directs the multi-centre British Early COPD Cohort (BEACON) designed to study the trajectory of the early stages of COPD.
Professor Wedzicha was Editor-in-Chief of Thorax from 2002 to 2010 and till March 2022 the Editor in Chief for the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. She was  the Lancet ombudsman till 2014, publications director for the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and has also previously been ERS guidelines director. She is a member of the GOLD Scientific Committee.
